# Gong: abm + thought leadership built a $7b b2b saas

Gong combined sustained LinkedIn thought-leadership content, ABM execution, and category creation to become the dominant 'revenue intelligence' B2B SaaS platform.

**Founded:** 2015

**Vertical:** B2B SaaS / Sales Intelligence

**Primary channels:** LinkedIn Thought Leadership + ABM + Content

## The founding and history

Gong was founded in 2015 by Amit Bendov and Eilon Reshef in Tel Aviv. The founding insight: sales-call recordings contained massive amounts of actionable data — what works, what doesn't, what topics close deals, what objections kill them — but no one was systematically analyzing it. AI-powered analysis of sales calls could surface insights that would make every salesperson better.[[1]](#cite-1)

The 'revenue intelligence' category Gong created didn't exist before Gong. The company explicitly invested in defining and owning the category — every piece of marketing content, every conference talk, every analyst briefing reinforced 'revenue intelligence' as the category and 'Gong' as the leader.[[2]](#cite-2)

## The playbook executed

Gong's marketing playbook centered on three pillars: **founder LinkedIn presence** (Amit Bendov posted regularly on LinkedIn with insights about sales, B2B, and revenue operations — building an audience that translated to product trial), **customer-led content** (Gong's content marketing drew heavily on real sales-call data from customer accounts, anonymized and aggregated), and **ABM execution** (sustained account-based marketing targeting B2B SaaS sales leaders).

The category-creation discipline mattered. Gong didn't just market a product; it created the language ('revenue intelligence,' 'reality of sales,' 'sales analytics powered by AI') that prospects then used to search for solutions. By the time prospects searched 'revenue intelligence platform,' Gong was the dominant brand for the category.[[3]](#cite-3)

## The results

Gong raised at a $7.25B valuation in August 2021 with an estimated $200M ARR at the time. By 2024 ARR exceeded $300M with continued growth. The company became one of the canonical examples of B2B SaaS category creation alongside companies like HubSpot, Salesforce, and Drift.[[4]](#cite-4)
