# Mejuri: fine jewelry reimagined as a dtc brand

Mejuri built a fine-jewelry DTC brand around 'everyday luxury' positioning and direct affordability — disrupting Tiffany and Cartier's pricing model.

**Founded:** 2015

**Vertical:** Apparel / Jewelry / DTC

**Primary channels:** Instagram + Influencer + Retail Pop-ups

## The founding and history

Mejuri was founded in 2015 in Toronto by Noura Sakkijha and Majed Masad. Sakkijha's family had been in the jewelry business for three generations; the insight: fine jewelry retail had been built around special-occasion purchases at meaningful price points, while consumers were increasingly interested in wearing fine jewelry daily at more accessible prices.[[1]](#cite-1)

Mejuri's positioning — 'fine jewelry, everyday' — was concrete. The brand sold 14-karat gold pieces (real fine jewelry, not gold-plated costume) at price points 60-80% below traditional fine-jewelry retailers (think $200-$400 stacking rings rather than $1,500+). The structural differentiation: DTC distribution and tighter margins enabled the everyday-luxury price point that traditional retail couldn't match.

## The playbook executed

Mejuri's marketing leaned heavily on Instagram and influencer partnerships — fashion and lifestyle creators wearing Mejuri pieces in everyday content created the desired 'wear it every day' positioning. The brand's Monday Drops (new product releases every Monday) became a habit-forming customer touchpoint similar to the SKIMS drop cadence.[[2]](#cite-2)

Retail expansion came in 2018-2019 with pop-ups in major cities (NYC, LA, Toronto, London), then permanent stores. The retail strategy positioned Mejuri stores as fine-jewelry experiences with friendly staff rather than intimidating glass-counter formality that incumbents used. The retail expansion compounded the DTC brand awareness.

## The results

By 2023-2024 Mejuri had reached an estimated $200M+ in annual revenue with global retail presence and continued growth. The brand became one of the canonical examples of DTC fine jewelry alongside Aurate, Catbird, and Otiumberg.[[3]](#cite-3)

## What this case study teaches

- **Everyday-luxury pricing creates new TAM in special-occasion categories** — Mejuri's $200-$400 fine jewelry pricing addressed a market traditional retail didn't.
- **Material truth-in-pricing is structurally defensible** — 14k gold at accessible prices isn't easily matched by gold-plated alternatives.
- **Drop cadence creates habit-forming touchpoints** — Monday Drops are a Mejuri brand attribute.
- **Influencer partnerships work for visual-aesthetic categories** — Instagram and TikTok creators wearing Mejuri demonstrate the everyday-wear positioning.
- **Retail expansion compounds DTC brand-build** — Mejuri's physical retail strengthened DTC brand recognition.
