## Why UAC matters

Google App campaigns (formerly UAC) is the dominant Android user-acquisition channel. Machine-learned campaign type spans Search, Play Store, YouTube, Display, Discover. Most Android apps' primary acquisition source.

## How UAC works

- You provide creative assets (text, image, video, HTML5).
- Google's algorithm assembles ads dynamically.
- Algorithm decides placement across surfaces.
- Optimizes against your goal (installs or in-app actions).
- Very algorithm-driven; less granular control than other channels.

## Signals UAC uses

- Google's vast user-behavior data.
- Search query intent.
- YouTube viewing history.
- App category interests.
- Demographic and location.
- Past app install patterns.
- Conversion event signals from your app.

## Campaign types

- **App Install:** Optimize for installs.
- **App Engagement:** Re-engage existing users.
- **App Pre-registration:** Pre-launch audience building.
- Ad surfaces include Search, Play Store, YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail.

## Creative requirements

- Multiple text headlines and descriptions.
- Multiple images per aspect ratio.
- Multiple video lengths.
- HTML5 ads (optional but valuable).
- App store assets used automatically.
- Volume matters; the algorithm tests combinations.

## Bidding

- **Target CPI:** Cost per install target.
- **Target CPA:** Cost per in-app action.
- **Target ROAS:** Return on ad spend.
- Smart Bidding requires conversion data volume.
- tROAS most powerful but data-intensive.

## Measurement

- Native attribution within Google's ecosystem.
- SDK integration for in-app events.
- MMP integration for cross-channel attribution.
- Firebase integration for analytics.
- Conversion uploads for offline events.

## Advanced playbook

- Creative volume strategy: 5+ headlines, 5+ images per aspect ratio, multiple videos.
- HTML5 ads for interactive engagement.
- Separate campaigns by goal (install vs engagement).
- Audience segmentation where supported.
- tROAS bidding with proper conversion value mapping.
- Firebase integration for richer events.
- App store asset optimization.
- Creative refresh cadence.
- Negative location targeting where applicable.
- Cross-campaign budget orchestration.

## Common mistakes

- Insufficient creative volume; algorithm starved.
- HTML5 ads not used.
- Single campaign for install + engagement.
- tROAS without sufficient conversion data.
- Conversion value mapping incomplete.
- MMP not integrated.
- Creative refresh absent; fatigue.
- App store assets neglected.
- Cross-channel attribution misunderstood.
- Manual interference during learning.

## Operating checklist

- Creative volume targets met
- HTML5 ads where supported
- Separate install / engagement campaigns
- tROAS or Target CPA bidding
- Conversion value mapping
- Firebase / MMP integrated
- Creative refresh quarterly
- App store assets current
- Cross-channel attribution understood
- Patient during learning periods
