## Why video creative testing

Video creative variability dominates video ad performance. Two near-identical videos can have 5× ROAS difference. Systematic testing surfaces winning patterns; gut instinct compounds bias.

## Three-tier testing

1. **Concept testing.** Different creative ideas (5+).
2. **Variant testing.** Winning concepts get 3–10 variations.
3. **Iteration testing.** Refine winners; minor changes; long-tail optimization.

## Hook testing

- First 1–5 seconds critical.
- Multiple hooks per concept tested.
- Hook variations: visual, audio, text overlay, opening question.
- Hook performance via 3-second view rate.
- Winning hook informs subsequent variants.

## Variations

- Same concept, different hooks.
- Same concept, different lengths.
- Same concept, different CTAs.
- Same concept, different aspect ratios.
- Same concept, different talent / spokesperson.
- Edit pacing variations.

## Volume requirements

| Platform | Concepts/qtr | Variations |
| --- | --- | --- |
| TikTok | 30–50 | 3–5 |
| Meta Reels | 20–30 | 3–5 |
| YouTube Shorts | 30–50 | 3 |
| YouTube TrueView | 5–10 | 3–5 |
| CTV | 3–5 anchor | 3 |

## Analysis

- 3-second view rate (hook).
- Watch-through rate (story completion).
- CTR (action drive).
- CVR (final outcome).
- Cost per outcome by creative.
- Creative fatigue tracking.

## Repurposing across platforms

- Shoot for highest-demand format (vertical 9:16).
- Crop to other ratios.
- Platform-specific edits (TikTok native vs YouTube polished).
- Captions per platform.
- Length adjustment per platform.
- Asset library with metadata.

## Advanced playbook

- Three-tier testing operationalized.
- Hook bank of proven patterns.
- Asset library with performance tagging.
- Creator network for UGC-style content.
- Production capacity model.
- Cross-platform adaptation pipeline.
- Performance pattern documentation.
- AI-assisted variation generation.
- Continuous refresh calendar.
- Annual creative strategy review.

## Common mistakes

- Insufficient creative volume.
- Hooks not tested separately.
- Concept testing skipped.
- Variations ad-hoc.
- Captions missing.
- Platform-native treatment ignored.
- Asset library disorganized.
- Performance patterns not documented.
- Creator content not used.
- Refresh calendar absent.

## Operating checklist

- Three-tier testing protocol
- Hook bank maintained
- Asset library with metadata
- Creator network for UGC
- Production capacity sustainable
- Cross-platform adaptation pipeline
- Performance pattern documentation
- Continuous refresh calendar
- Annual creative strategy review
- Captions and platform-native variants
