Podcast Advertising Agency — Host-Read & Programmatic Podcast Ads
The last trusted ad on the internet.
A host their audience believes, reading your pitch in their own voice, into ears that chose to be there. We run podcasts as performance media — host-read trust plus dynamic-insertion scale — and prove it with pixels and holdouts, not download counts.
Downloads aren’t listens.
Flip the metric. A download is a file request of sixty seconds of audio — not a human, not a completion, not a sale. Switch to what a pixel and a holdout actually prove and the vanity number gives way to revenue.
The gap is wider than it looks. The IAB defines a download as sixty seconds of audio transferred and deduped per listener — not a verified human, and not a completion (IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines v2.2, 2024). That is why we anchor reporting to a pixel and a holdout: a download tells you a file moved, while incremental lift tells you a sale happened that would not have otherwise.
The IAB defines a valid download as 60+ seconds of audio transferred, deduped per listener — not a verified human listen (IAB Podcast Measurement v2.2, 2024). Measure completed listens, pixel conversions, and lift. Figures illustrative.1
Trust you can’t fake.
Listeners build a real relationship with a host they choose week after week — and they extend that trust to what the host endorses. No social feed comes close.
The trust gap is measured, not anecdotal. 62% of podcast fans say they trust an ad read by their favorite host, against just 15% for a social-media influencer (SuperListeners / Sounds Profitable, 2025), and host-read spots post 71% brand recall versus 62% announcer-read (Nielsen, 2020). You aren’t buying an impression; you’re borrowing a relationship the host spent years earning, which is exactly why a recycled script squanders it.
62% of podcast fans trust ads read by their favorite host versus 15% for social-media influencers (SuperListeners / Sounds Profitable, 2025); host-read recall runs 71% vs 62% announcer-read (Nielsen, 2020).2
Where the ad lands.
Pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll — the slot changes the price, the attention, and the job. Tap one for the numbers and where it wins.
Placement is a real lever, not a formality. Mid-roll commands the highest CPM and the strongest recall because the listener is already committed to the episode; pre-roll is cheaper and lands the moment play begins; post-roll is the least expensive and the least heard (Ad Results Media, Acast, 2025). Match the slot to the goal — mid-roll for considered purchases, pre-roll for reach and simple offers — rather than buying whatever inventory is cheapest.
Mid-roll commands the highest CPM and recall because the listener is already engaged; pre-roll is cheaper and immediate; post-roll is lowest (Ad Results Media, Acast, 2025). CPMs are agency estimates.3
Read it, or insert it.
Host-read, dynamically inserted, or fully programmatic — each balances trust, scale, and cost differently. Pick one to see what you gain and give up. The best programs use all three.
The three read types trade trust for scale. Host-read carries the highest trust and recall but the highest CPM; dynamic ad insertion (DAI) now drives more than 90% of US podcast ad revenue because it scales one spot across a whole catalog; programmatic is roughly 11% and growing — cheapest and most targetable, but the most commoditized (IAB, 2023; Nielsen, 2020). The strongest programs blend all three: host-read to open trust, DAI to scale the winners, programmatic to extend reach.
Host-read carries the highest trust and recall; dynamic ad insertion is now over 90% of US podcast ad revenue, and programmatic is ~11% and growing fast (IAB, 2023). Most host-reads are themselves DAI-served.4
Video didn’t kill the podcast ad.
YouTube is now the most popular place to watch podcasts — but watching isn’t buying. Flip the lens: the video impression looks bigger, yet it converts worse, and most people still say they listen.
Watching is not buying. YouTube is now the most popular place to consume podcasts (Cumulus / Signal Hill, 2025), and the video impression looks larger on a plan — yet YouTube podcast impressions convert up to about 25% worse than audio downloads at driving purchases (Oxford Road × Podscribe, 2025), even though roughly 92% of people say they still listen rather than watch. Buy video for reach and discovery, but hold conversion goals on the audio buy.

Run it like a program.
Podcast advertising isn’t one host-read and a promo code — it’s a sourcing, briefing, buying, and measurement loop. Each step has its own job. Tap through it.
Treat it as a loop, not a one-off. A real program sources and vets shows, briefs the host on intent rather than a verbatim script, books the right placement and read type, and measures every flight so the next buy is smarter than the last. The brands that compound results renew proven hosts and retire the rest, because a host who already trusts the brand sells it more convincingly the second and third time.

Price the buy.
Set a budget and a format, then watch the math: a spot costs the CPM times downloads over a thousand. The number that matters isn’t the CPM — it’s the cost of a completed, attributable listen.
The economics are simple once you price the right unit. A spot costs the CPM times downloads divided by a thousand; a blended sixty-second podcast CPM runs around $21 (Libsyn AdvertiseCast, 2024), with host-read roughly $25–40, DAI $15–30, and programmatic $5–15 (estimates). The number that should govern the buy is the cost per completed, attributable listen — a cheap CPM no one finishes is dearer than a premium host-read that converts.
Cost = CPM × downloads ÷ 1,000; the blended 60-second podcast CPM is ~$21 (Libsyn AdvertiseCast, 2024). Host-read ~$25–40, DAI ~$15–30, programmatic ~$5–15 (estimates). Illustrative — RGM analysis.7
Stack the evidence.
Promo codes undercount and downloads can’t prove cause. Click each way you tie a listen to a result — the more causal the method, the more you can trust the call to scale.
Rank the evidence by how causal it is. Promo codes systematically undercount and downloads cannot prove cause; a tracking pixel adds on- and off-platform attribution (Spotify Ad Analytics and the Spotify Pixel attribute both), and a holdout — withholding the campaign from a matched group — isolates the incremental lift. The more causal the method, the more confidently you scale a show or cut it, instead of guessing from a vanity download chart.
Spotify Ad Analytics and the Spotify Pixel attribute on and off platform; layer promo codes, brand lift, holdout/incrementality, and MMM. Promo codes alone systematically undercount (Sounds Profitable, 2025).8
Five ways brands waste podcast budget.
Most wasted podcast spend fails the same handful of ways. Open each one.
The common thread is buying reach and hoping for results. Spending on raw downloads without a pixel, handing the host a stiff script that breaks the trust you paid for, judging a brand-awareness flight on last-click sales, chasing the cheapest CPM into shows nobody finishes, and running one flight then declaring the channel dead — each is a way to pay for audio that never had a chance to prove itself.

Trusted voices, measured.
No download vanity, no recycled scripts, no promo-code guesswork. A senior team sources and vets the shows, briefs the host for an authentic read, blends host-read with dynamic insertion, and proves it with pixels and holdouts. Pricing is custom: flat, project, or performance, by fit.
We run podcasts the way we run every paid channel: as a measured system with a profit target, not a sponsorship line item. That means a defensible read on incrementality before we scale, a content library we can re-license, and a roster of proven hosts we renew rather than churn. The result is a channel you can hold to a number, not a leap of faith dressed up as brand love.
