How to build an email program.

Five steps. A well-built email program compounds for years. Here is the sequence from inbox to test.
  1. Authenticate and warm up. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC and warm your sending so you actually reach the inbox.
  2. Segment by behavior and value. Group subscribers by engagement and lifetime value so the right message reaches the right person.
  3. Build the core flows. Ship welcome, abandoned-cart, post-purchase and win-back - they earn most of the revenue.
  4. Design mobile-first. Design for mobile and dark mode, with clear CTAs and accessible markup.
  5. Test subject and offer. A/B test subject lines and offers, and judge on clicks and revenue, not inflated opens.

The deep guides.

Beyond the basics. Each method has a full deep dive - from abandoned-cart flows to DMARC authentication and Klaviyo flow design. The full stack holds 178 pages, including industry playbooks.

Email questions.

What is the highest-ROI email tactic?

Automated flows. Triggered welcome, abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows earn far more revenue per recipient than one-off campaigns - often around 20 times more.

Why are my emails going to spam?

Usually authentication or reputation. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC, keep complaints below 0.3%, warm new IPs, and prune unengaged subscribers. Deliverability is a reputation game.

Is open rate still a reliable metric?

Not on its own. Apple Mail Privacy Protection inflates opens with machine loads. Judge engagement on click rate and click-to-open rate, and use opens only as a rough directional signal.

How should I segment my email list?

By behavior and value first - engagement recency, purchase history and lifetime-value tiers - not demographics. A few segments you treat differently beat dozens that all get the same email.

What email flows should I build first?

Welcome, abandoned-cart, post-purchase and win-back. These four capture the highest-intent moments and drive the majority of automated email revenue.

What is DMARC?

DMARC is an email-authentication policy that builds on SPF and DKIM to protect your domain from spoofing. It is required for bulk senders to Gmail and Yahoo.
