What a liquidity pool is
A liquidity pool is a reserve of two crypto tokens, locked inside a smart contract, that a decentralized exchange trades against instead of matching one buyer to one seller. This is a concept from decentralized finance (DeFi), and nothing here is financial advice. People called liquidity providers deposit an equal value of both tokens — say a stablecoin and a volatile coin — and in return they receive pool tokens that represent their share.
